The friendship in the movie Cars
For a few past weeks in our “Skills 4 life” sessions we have been watching the movie Cars and we’ve been noticing the friendship that formed between McQueen and the citizens of Radiator Springs. At first when Lightning accidentally destroyed the main road in Radiator Springs everyone thought that he was a snobby race car that thought popularity was better than friendship. He expected that everyone knew who he was and that he needed to get to California ASAP for the Piston Cup race.
Friendship is having friends that care for you, stick up for you in “mean word” fights, and are trustworthy. Popularity is just having people know who you are and don’t really care about who you are.
His friendship level changed during the days he stayed at Radiator Springs. He was forced by Doc to fix the road he destroyed. So Lightning does a messy job. This proves that he has no intention to stick around in Radiator Springs. Doc then forces him to scrape the messy road job off and do a better job. Sally allows Lightning a cone at the Cozy Cone, trying to get Lightning as a friend. Mater explains after coming back from the tractor yard that McQueen is his best-friend and relies on him for everything. McQueen just says “Yeah…” showing that he knows nothing about friendship. Soon after fixing the road a crew of cars come in and find McQueen in “the middle of nowhere”. McQueen begs the cars to go away so he could spend a little more time with his new friends including Sally. But he gets taken away for the Piston Cup race.
Clearly McQueen learnt what friendship is, and that it’s not hard to maintain a high friendship status and to have friends.
Mater and Sally helped develop McQueen’s friendship level by taking him for drives places, being with him and Sally offered a cone to McQueen. Doc didn’t really care about McQueen and just wanted him to hurry up and finish the road. Doc called the crew of cars and Mack so they could come and take McQueen away. But Doc and some Radiator Springs cars come and be his crew for the race.
Mater was being friendly to McQueen from the start, Sally just rejecting what McQueen’s said. Doc was never McQueen’s friend, he just wanted him to leave.
Five characteristics that I look for a friend are
Trustworthy
Kindness
Level of maturity
If they stick up for you in fights
If they really are a friend and aren’t mean to you.
One of my bestfriends is Josh. He is a really good friend, and I find him trustworthy. He can be mean, but it’s only joking as I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t mean it. He likes some things that I like such as Pokemon and iPods. He is a sporty person, and real speedy too. We always have a truce in handball so we don’t get each other out. If we have a truce we barely hit it to each other for a less chance of getting out. In my opinion he’s one of a kind.
